Jonathan Ray

Research Director

Jonathan Ray is the Research Director at the Center for Intelligence Research and Analysis (CIRA), where he oversees a team of nearly forty Chinese, Russian, and Farsi linguist-analysts. His personal research focuses on China’s advancements in emerging technologies, including information and communications technologies, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and nuclear weapons. He has contributed chapters to publications including The Gathering Pacific Storm: Emerging US-China Strategic Competition in Defense Technological and Industrial Development and China’s Evolving Military Strategy, and has testified before the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. He completed his B.A. at Cornell University, his M.A. at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, and Chinese language training at Brigham Young University.
